The New Jersey Apartment Association had initial concerns with A. 1919 and S. 250, but “the association’s executive director, David Brogan, said amendments ‘led to a much more balanced bill'” when it passed last week, as reported by the New York Times.  The legislation had broad support and many leaders were cosponsors of the bill.

In discussing the better balance in the bill, Brogan made a key point when he said that “government needs to do more to help people transition successfully after leaving prison. ‘Government shouldn’t be pointing the finger at private-sector landlords to address a problem that they themselves have failed to fix.'”

A legislative summary of the version of the bill that now heads to the governor is available online.
