Data furnishers have seen an increased number of consumer disputes over the last few years, which can strain resources and result in legal risks under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Furnishers are required to investigate and respond to consumer disputes within 30 days and must often manage unexpected changes in the volume or type of disputes they receive. These obligations are increasingly complex in light of the increased volume of requests to block information as a result of identity theft.
The presenters will discuss the evolving legal landscape around furnishers’ obligations to conduct reasonable reinvestigations, and provide practical strategies regarding dispute processing including assessing documentation, identifying red flags, and the intersection with blocks and furnisher’s requests for rescission. Attendees will gain tools to differentiate legitimate claims from potential misuse while maintaining compliance and protecting the integrity of consumer reports.
Join Jennifer Sarvadi, and Erica Kramer, both partners at Hudson Cook LLP, and Andrew Lehmann, Director Legal at TransUnion on December 7, as they examine the legal requirements for the dispute resolution process and discusses practical tips for handling disputes.
