To Be or Not to Be? Bipartisan U.S. Federal Privacy Bill Gains Momentum
July 6, 2022 @ 2pm ET
Over the last couple of weeks there has been a dramatic increase in momentum for federal privacy legislation. On June 3rd, H.R. 8152, the American Data Privacy and Protection Act (ADPPA) was introduced and this legislation would be the first comprehensive privacy proposal to gain bipartisan, bicameral support. ADPPA would establish a national standard to protect consumer data privacy, imposes obligations on covered entities, and allows for federal, state, and individual enforcement. The bill would also establish a new Bureau of Privacy at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as the regulator to enforce the bill at the federal level.
