Overview
U.S. privacy is a complicated mix of federal, state and local privacy laws. The Data Privacy Awareness Program is designed to build an awareness of the numerous important data privacy laws governing the consumer reporting industry. At the same time, however, consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about who has their information, and what they are doing with it. Coupled with the ever-present problems of identity theft and cyber crime, these concerns have made data privacy a popular issue among legislators and regulators worldwide in recent years.
Topics include discussion around Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and its limits to disclose personal financial data, the updated Safeguards Rule, application of GLBA in regard to different types of financial institutions. In addition, this course will discuss key components of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other important federal and state laws.
