CDIA Statement on Reports of Potential Changes to Tri-Merge Credit Reporting
Statement from Dan Smith, President and CEO, Consumer Data Industry Association
Washington, D.C. — Dan Smith, President and CEO of the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA), issued the following statement in response to reports that the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) is considering changes to the credit reporting requirements for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:
“CDIA and its members support a mortgage market that best serves consumers as they pursue the American dream of homeownership. More data, not less, produces better outcomes, and keeps borrowing costs down. Lenders and borrowers benefit from the most complete, accurate picture, which is why maintaining the tri-merge credit report is critical to the safety and soundness of the mortgage industry.
The organizations that power the mortgage market have committed to using more information, not less, and the data continues to produce better outcomes. Consumers, lenders, investors and taxpayers benefit from this robust information, and any change at this time would upset this balance and introduce unintended cost and risk. CDIA welcomes the opportunity to work with policymakers to keep it that way.”
