On July 29, 2024, Vice President Harris issued a statement on North Carolina’s Medical Debt Announcement. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS, approved a plan from the Tar Heel State towards the “potential erasure of $4 billion in hospital debt for two million people,” as reported by local news. Governor Roy Cooper (D) is a leading candidate for vice president. In her statement today, the vice president said that “soon we will make it so medical debt can no longer be included in your credit score, impacting millions of Americans.”
