Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA) (15)

In January 2017, the three nationwide credit bureaus wrote to Jeb Hensarling, the chair of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, urging Congress to clarify the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA). This letter was around the introduction H.R. 3766, the Credit Information Protection Act of 2017. That bill was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT). The following year, the bill was reintroduced as H.R. 6192, the Credit Information Protection Act of by U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (D-CA).

In September 2017, H.R. 6192 was the subject of a hearing of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee. That hearing was on Legislative Proposals for a More Efficient Federal Financial Regulatory Regime. The hearing record for that hearing (115-38) is online.
