Ban the Box, Criminal Records, and Racial Discrimination: A Field Experiment, which appeared in the Feb. 2018 edition of The Quarterly Journal of Economics.  The paper is authored by Amanda Agan (Rutgers) and Sonja Starr (Univ. of Michigan).  This paper concluded that Ban-the-box laws increased statistical discrimination against black men, increased racial disparity in callbacks.
