A report by New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer offers a first-of-its-kind estimate demonstrating how reporting rent payment information to credit bureaus could help lift credit scores across the city. Drawing on proprietary data provided by Experian, a credit bureau, this report offers a granular survey of credit conditions in each of New York City’s neighborhoods, and demonstrates how the addition of rent data can help consumers gain higher, more robust credit scores.

The report is Making Rent Count: How NYC Tenants Can Lift Credit Scores and Save Money.  The report is summarized in two places on the comptroller’s website, here and here.
