U.S. Government Shutdown (11)

In late 2018, several bills were introduced in the New Jersey legislature to address the U.S. government shutdown, including by imposing obligations on CRAs.

  • S. 3500 by Sens. Nellie Pou (D-Patterson) and Troy Singleton (Moorestown). Pou was the majority caucus chair and Singleton was the majority whip. The bill would prohibit consumer reporting agencies from making reports containing adverse information related to employees affected by a federal government shutdown. That bill passed the senate and the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.
  • A. 5166 by Assembly Members Christopher Tully (D-Paramus), Lisa Swain (D-Paramus), and Britnee Timberlake (D-East Orange). Tully was the Deputy Majority Leader, and Swain was the chair of Appropriations. The bill would prohibit consumer reporting agencies from making reports containing adverse information related to employees affected by a federal government shutdown. That bill passed the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.
