In response to the legislation in California in 2020 to create the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (“DFPI”).  The legislation, the California Consumer Financial Protection Law (“CCFPL”).  In August 2020, CDIA wrote a letter to Assemblymembers Phil Ting (D), the chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, and Monique Limon, the chair of the Assembly Banking Committee.  In December 2020, CDIA wrote a letter to Manuel Alvarez, the Commissioner of the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation.

In February 2021, DPFI “published an Invitation for Comments asking stakeholders to provide input on regulations to implement the CCFPL. The Invitation for Comments requests stakeholder input on various concepts including which industries should be required to register with the DFPI first, industry rules for complaint handling and response, and identifying unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts and practices for consumer and commercial transactions.”  In connection with that invitation, CDIA filed a comment in March 2021.
