In 2020, Councilman Steven T. Levin (D-Brooklyn Heights), introduced a bill, Intro. 2047, that “would prohibit housing discrimination in rentals, leases, subleases, or occupancy agreements in New York City, on the basis of arrest or criminal record. Landlords and real estate brokers would be prohibited from inquiring about criminal record information at any stage in the process.”  The proposed ordinance has been cosponsored by more than half of the members of the 50-member council.  CDIA opposed this legislation and supported our colleagues in the landlord community to work to defeat the measure.
