On March 29, 2022, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee held a hearing, Economic Impact of the Growing Burden of Medical Debt.
Committee Chair, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) offered an opening statement, as did the Ranking Member, U.S. Sen. Patrick J. Toomey (R-PA).
There were five witnesses:

- Ms. Berneta L. Haynes, Staff Attorney, National Consumer Law Center. Ms. Haynes added to her testimony a March 22, 2022 letter from NCLC to the CFPB and a March 2022 NCLC report, The Racial Health and Wealth Gap: Impact of Medical Debt on Black Families.
