In 2022 and 2023, several states introduced legislation to protect consumers from credit repair scams by further regulating credit repair operations.
District of Columbia
In 2022, Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie (D) introduced B24-1148, the Credit Recovery Services Transparency and Accountability Amendment Act of 2022.
Washington
In 2023, H.B. 1311, became law (Ch. 144, Laws of 2023). The new law amended and added new provisions to the Credit Services Organizations Act (CSRO), RCW Title 19, Ch. 134.
